Internet Businesses and Expired Domains
Cai Nowicki
It is very important for a business whose domain expired recently to register it again as soon as possible. In the Internet world, having a well-known and easily-recalled domain name is vital to the success of any web-based business. People remembering the name of a website or clicking on a link for that website is what drives sales in the Internet market. If people cannot get to a business's website because the domain expired and the website has been moved to another location, they will be unable to purchase products from that website. That website will lose any potential ad revenue from those customers as well. Any effort that went into building backlinks, creating promotional materials, or performing search engine optimization is now wasted. No matter how well a website has been designed, coded, or optimized, if its domain name is lost the website is essentially lost as well. Allowing their domain name to expire is one of the worst mistakes an Internet-based business can make.
Any company whose domain expired due to the high cost of their hosting service should do some research. There are a multitude of companies that offer web hosting services, and all of them have different pricing structures and different features. If one company's prices are too high, simply find another with similar features but lower prices. This should happen right away. If the domain is allowed to sit expired for too long, someone else may be able to come along and buy it. Then, any advertising or other promotional materials that direct customers to the old domain name for the company will benefit this new company that purchased the domain. It is therefore absolutely required for an expired domain to be registered again by the original owner as soon as their financial situation permits.
